Join our team! We are acceptation applications for a postdoctoral scholar in wildfire hydrology and water supply at SDSU
The Disturbance Hydrology Lab in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at San Diego State University (SDSU) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral scholar in wildfire hydrology and water supply. This interdisciplinary NASA project seeks to understand how post-fire watershed impacts change over time and across different communities and to develop metrics that help communicate the risks so that communities can prepare for them. We are seeking a postdoc to collaborate with the PI and Co-Is to perform spatial analyses, develop metrics, and perform statistical analyses across the objectives of our study. This postdoc will contribute to dissemination of findings and support supervision of graduate and undergraduate research assistants. Opportunities exist for additional collaboration, development of new lines of research, and professional development such as training in grant writing.
This two-year position has possibility for extension and will provide exceptional academic and professional development opportunities in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment (USGS, USFS, NASA JPL, CAL FIRE). The starting salary is $65,000 per year depending on disciplinary background and candidate experience and is entitled to full benefits.
Qualifications Candidates must have a PhD or be ABD in civil engineering and environmental engineering, environmental science, hydrology, earth system sciences, or a closely related field (having a Ph.D. upon starting the position is expected). Relevant experience in remote sensing and analysis, analyzing empirical watershed data, and post-fire recovery of watersheds is required. Preferred qualifications also include experience with Python, Google Earth Engine, research experience on wildfire effects on hydrology or water quality, machine learning, and evidence of multidisciplinary collaboration. We also seek someone with excellent organization, written, and statistical skills, strong self-direction, and the ability to thrive within the diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment at SDSU.
To apply Review of applications will begin on May 1st and will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
