Research opportunities in hydrologic response and recovery of disturbed watersheds
We are always considering graduate and undergraduate students for research positions in hydrology and water resources engineering in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at San Diego State University with Dr. Kinoshita (akinoshita@sdsu.edu).

California is facing critical water resources issues. The population is rapidly increasing and there is a high demand for water. Disturbances such as droughts, diminishing snowpack, and wildfires significantly alter natural ecosystems and hydrological processes, contributing further to unreliable water yield. Research in disturbed watersheds will improve protection and management of valuable water resources at local and regional scales. Research will address issues in wildfire and recovery and sustainable watershed practices. Past projects have included: wildfire and recovery; remote sensing and modeling of natural and disturbed hydrological processes; investigating the impacts of forest disturbance on water quality and total maximum daily loads (TMDLs); understanding impact of landscape connectivity on hydrology; and improving the sustainability of trail systems in local watersheds. Projects may involve field investigations and/or heavy computational and data analysis and modeling. Students will be expected to conduct literature review on the topic, develop experimental designs, analyze data, and summarize their findings. We look forward to you joining our team!
